Wight Dolphins welcomes 10 newly qualified Ocean Divers

Wight Dolphins has welcomed 10 newly qualified Ocean Divers to the club. Maddie Adamson, Shaun Channing, Lucie Johnson, Steve Johnson, William Johnson, Kim Kirby, Mike Montgomery, Hannah Ottley, Katie Ould and Laura Westmore have all successfully completed their BSAC Ocean Diver Course over the course of several months with the clubs training team.

The BSAC Ocean Diver qualification is the entry-level open water diver grade allowing diving to a maximum depth of 20 meters in open water. BSAC’s approach is designed to build skills and confidence progressively and the group started their training with six theory lessons followed by an assessment. They then each completed five sheltered water lessons, which took place at West Wight Sports and Community Centre in Freshwater over the winter months, during which they developed the skills to progress to training in open water which started in May 2026. Under the supervision of the Wight Dolphins instructors the trainees completed numerous dives at Vobster Quay and at various dive sites around the Isle of Wight, both from the shore and from the clubs’ boat, to achieve their BSAC Ocean Diver qualification.

They can now use this qualification to dive at their choice of location around the world. Several of the trainees have already started to develop their skills by progressing to the next level and have started their Sports Diver course with the club.

If you’ve ever looked out at the sea and wondered what it’s like underneath the surface, the BSAC Ocean Diver course with Wight Dolphins BSAC could be the perfect place to start.
